Part-Time Clerk Position at Phoenicia Library

Come work in one of the coolest small towns in America. Phoenicia Library is looking for a library staff member to join our great library community. You will be at the front desk doing circulation and helping create the warm atmosphere that our patrons love. You will work with a welcoming, fun team.

Requirements: Friendly and passionate about public service. Ease with details & with computers, familiarity with word processing and Internet search engines. We can train on Sierra. Relaxed, open manner with all ages. Reliability is essential.

This is an active, busy library with wonderful patrons. We do shared caretaking of the library meaning everyone pitches in with all tasks including daily housekeeping of all spaces, setting up for programs which involves moving light tables, chairs, etc.

Absolutely “room to grow” into programming and special projects of interest to you. This is a library where the staff “gives it their all” each day for our patrons. It is a workplace in which the well being of staff members is also an important part of the equation.

A plus, but not required, is willingness to work with children’s programming.

Wage: $19.50 which historically is increased annually to keep up with inflation.

Particulars of this Position: We have an opening for one new staff member for 2 days/shifts, which could eventually grow with the right person. Shifts are either approximately 1-6 pm, or 10-3 pm, depending on the day. This is for a total of 10-12 hours a week.

We tend to have fixed schedules so that you will know what days you are committing to. Staff members will occasionally be asked to be flexible and, subject their availability, provide coverage for fellow staff or library needs.

IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU APPLY:

• Please be able to make a one year commitment to this position.

• We love students, but the hours of this job won’t work for someone in high school.

• Please be sure you don’t live too far away. Staff typically find that commuting from more than 20-30 minutes away isn’t sustainable, especially given winter weather.

Covid Precautions: We take the health of staff and patrons seriously. Masks are welcome but not required in the building. We provide portable HEPA filter machines, and excellent ventilation. Staff may be required to serially test if they have symptoms or have been exposed to keep others safe.
