
The Kent Public Library
The Kent Public Library in Putnam County, NY is seeking an enthusiastic, creative full-time (35-hours per week) Head of Youth Services to develop and oversee the Library’s children’s and young adult collections and programs. The successful candidate will lead a team including a children’s programming specialist, already on staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Eligibility for a New York State public librarian’s professional certificate at time of application for appointment.
- Possession of a New York State public librarian’s professional certificate at time of appointment.
- One (1) year of experience working with children and/or young adults in recreational, youth, park service, cultural or educational enrichment activities.”
There are currently two ways that an individual can meet the educational requirements to receive a professional New York State Librarian Certificate:
- Hold an ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS)or a library degree from a library school located explicitly in New York.
- Have six graduate credit hours from an ALA-accredited school, hold a New York State Public Librarian conditional certificate, and have two years of satisfactory professional experience at a library located anywhere in the United States. The salary is between $55,000 and $58,000, Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, NY state retirement program and health insurance.
