The LaGrange Association Library
The LaGrange Association Library is seeking an energetic and creative Youth Services Coordinator to provide exceptional children’s services to our community. Reporting to the Library Director, this individual will join a dedicated staff and be instrumental in providing quality services and programming in our beautiful new Children’s Room!
Responsibilities:
• Develops, coordinates, and implements early literacy story times and a variety of programs for infants, toddlers, children through grade 8, families, and local home school groups, including crafting and S.T.E.A.M. projects
• Develops and maintains the children’s collection of materials, including purchasing and weeding; keeps the Children’s Room neat and organized
• Provides information and readers’ advisory assistance to children and families
• Conducts outreach to the local schools, day cares, and home school groups, and the Town Department of Parks & Recreation; represents the Library at community events
• Coaches the middle school team for the Mid-Hudson Library System annual Battle of the Books competition
• Works with the Library’s Volunteer Coordinator to utilize teen volunteers for program assistance or special projects
• Supervises a part-time Youth Programmer
• Creates children’s program fliers and other promotional materials
• Identifies opportunities to secure grants for programs and collections; writes grant proposals
• Helps maintain the Library’s social media presence
• Maintains calendar of events and program statistics
• Maintains the children’s programming and collection development budgets
• Maintains awareness of current trends in children’s literature, child development, and technology
• Attends workshops, training sessions, and conferences pertinent to job duties
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of children’s literature and the role of STEAM in a learning environment
• Ability to plan and implement programs that involve creativity, detail, and flexibility
• Experience interacting with parents and children and adapting to difficult situations
• Passion for promoting reading and learning to children of all ages
• Ability to work well as part of a team that provides superior patron services to our community
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Tact, courtesy, patience, and humor interacting with the staff, children, parents, and teen volunteers
• Efficient project management and multitasking ability
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher or Canva, and in the use of social media as a promotional tool
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in library science, education, art or related field plus 1-3 years of experience working with young children in a library, school or similar setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position is 37.5 hours per week including evenings and Saturdays as determined by programming and outreach needs; $21 per hour with paid vacation, holidays, sick, personal leave, medical/vision insurance, AFLAC supplemental insurance, Employee Assistance Program, and optional salary contribution to a 403(b) retirement account.
