PHILMONT PUBLIC LIBRARY SEEKS NEW DIRECTOR

The Philmont Public Library seeks a part-time Director. We are a small but vital resource, located on Main Street in the center of the Village of Philmont. Used by more than 11,000 people a year, our Library is a safe and welcoming gathering place for individuals and families. People come for chair yoga or bring their little ones for story time. They settle into quiet places to do homework, use the public WiFi, borrow tools that vary from wrenches to rototillers, get help figuring out official forms, or take home veggies from the community’s Free Fridge. They even borrow books and DVDs!
The Library wants a Director who can be a leader in charge of programs like these, someone who can organize the staff to run the daily operations of the Library, someone who can support the Library’s belief in our commitment to serve the diverse needs of the people of Philmont and surrounding communities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to:
• Develop and manage relevant collections of books, DVDs, etc.
• Identify and develop programs for patrons for all ages.
• Hire and train staff.
• Help patrons navigate technology, including websites, social media and phones.
• Identify and apply for grants.
• Create or guide the creation of marketing materials.
• Evaluate a variety of program ideas.
• Present reports at monthly Trustees’ meetings.
• Develop and manage the budget. Oversee payment of bills.
• Recommend Library policies. Work with committees.
• Meet with the Village Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library.
• Attend meetings of Mid-Hudson Library System’s Directors.
• Oversee maintenance of the building and grounds by reporting to the Village necessary work and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Written and oral communication
• Interpersonal and management skills
• Aptitude with technology, including Sierra, Google Workspace, WordPress, and social media
• Commitment to learning new skills through a variety of available training
• Strong initiative, creativity, and flexibility
• Dedication to customer service
• Demonstration of a positive attitude toward patrons, staff, and community
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• Previous library work, an additional plus
