Poughkeepsie Public Library District

Poughkeepsie Public Library District seeks qualified candidates for the position of Library Assistant (Part Time). This is a position in the Administration Department.
About Poughkeepsie Public Library District (PPLD): The Poughkeepsie Public Library District is a special legislative district created to provide public library service to the residents of the City and Town of Poughkeepsie, New York. With three library locations and mobile branch, PPLD strives to offer diverse services and programs resulting in an informed and educated public, with a strong emphasis on promoting lifelong learning, literacy, and reading.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or
  • Associate’s degree and two (2) years of paid work experience in non-clerical library activities, or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of paid
  • work experience in non-clerical library activities
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
  • A commitment to fulfill the PPLD mission and vision;
  • Ability to attain proficiency in assigned tasks;
  • Ability to operate a personal computer with office software (documents and spreadsheets);
  • Excellent communication, time management, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Typical Work Activities:
  • Assists with coordinating the MAP (Museums, Attractions & Parks) Passes Program;
  • Manages the library volunteer program (receives applications, verifies completion of training, record keeping);
  • May develop, prepare, promote and implement library programs, special events and displays;
  • May compile statistics and provide program summary reports;
  • Does related work as required.
Compensation and Benefits:

  • 2026 rate of pay: $30.64/hour (17.5 hour work week)
  • Work days: Monday to Friday (3.5 hours per day)
  • Accruals (including sick, personal, vacation, floating holiday) and 13 paid holidays
  • CSEA EBF dental and vision coverage available
  • Flexible Spending Account (dependent care/medical)(optional)
  • New York State and Local Retirement System membership (optional)
  • NYS Deferred Compensation/457(b) (optional)
