FT Adult Services Librarian II

The Moffat Library of Washingtonville, located in an historic landmark building in Orange County, New York, and serving a population of 25,000 residents, is seeking an individual to join our team as a full-time Adult Services Librarian II.
HOURS:
Hours: 36 hours/week, includes weekend and evening hours. The Library is open 7 days a week, Mondays through Thursdays: 10am-8pm; Fridays: 10am-6pm; Saturdays: 10am-5pm; & Sundays: 12-5pm.
SUMMARY:
The incumbent of this position will lead the Moffat Library librarian team to heights of success in providing exemplary service to the public. In charge of the library’s print and online adult and reference collections, collection development and reader’s advisory, and public-facing computers and technology assistance, this individual will also schedule the work of a team of 10 full & part-time librarians.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide reference and reader’s advisory to library patrons
- Provide technology help to staff and patrons
- Create print and online manuals and instruction guides for staff and public in use of library’s catalog system, resources, computer software programs and program facilitation guides.
- Work with circulation department to identify and communicate any issues with the library automation system.
- Select and acquire library materials for adults in all formats.
- Run circulation reports through our current library automation system, to ascertain circulation stats for periodic reports
- Make recommendations to Library Director regarding collection development and services; and oversee the facilitation of such.
- Work with Marketing Librarian on strategies to promote the library’s services and collections through the creation of discovery tools, resource guides, digital book displays, and local catalog and website enrichment projects.
- Create print & online resource guides, displays and bibliographies.
- Handle scheduling of professional librarians for all shifts under the supervision of the Library Director.
- Manage the Library’s ILL system, delegating to other librarians as necessary.
- Supervise all processing and linking of library materials in the library catalog system; delegating to other department heads as necessary.
- Understand and is able to work with the Library System to maintain all aspects of the library’s networked computing and printing systems.
- Oversee the library materials budget and communicate with the various departments under the direction of the Library Director.
- May develop and present programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
This position requires: excellent customer service skills; flexibility; a positive attitude; an understanding and ability to work with people of all ages; experience in performing reference, reader’s advisory and digital instruction for adults; knowledge of principles and practices of library science; excellent knowledge of library reference materials and techniques; good knowledge of bibliographical tools and sources; excellent knowledge of library online database systems, web tools and emerging technologies; good knowledge of computer software and hardware; good knowledge of modern library organization, methods, procedures, & policies; ability to carry out library policies; ability to carry out assignments independently; ability to comprehend users’ needs quickly and accurately; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; initiative in making constructive suggestions for improvements in services and collections; ability to handle situations with tact, courtesy, and good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*
- A Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from a library school that is accredited by the NYS Education Department + two (2) years or more full-time or equivalent professional library experience subsequent to MLS/MLIS. (Professional library experience shall be defined as experience gained at a public, academic, or school library, after the candidate received their Master’s degree in Library & Information Science.)
- NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate
- Proven mastery of Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated ability to provide readers advisory and reference services
- Strong knowledge of mobile technology and digital and eBook platforms
- Ability to communicate and teach concepts both simple and complex to a varied audience
- Experience with Bywater Solutions Koha ILS preferred
*This is a competitive OC civil service position and applicants must be reachable on the OC Civil Service list of eligibles for Librarian II by date of hire.
SALARY: Salary range in $27-34 per hour based on experience.
