Ulster County Civil Service Position Library Director 1

The Stone Ridge Public Library is seeking a inspirational and forward looking leader to be our
next Library Director.

Job Description
Responsibilities: Duties include preparing and overseeing the budget; developing
employment and service policies; selecting library materials; performing reference and
referral services; strategic planning; public and governmental relations; reporting to the
governing board; ensuring compliance with laws; fundraising; hiring, firing, motivating and
scheduling staff; and overseeing the operation of the physical plant and grounds.

Education, Experience, and Skills: A master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in
library and information science preferred. Good knowledge of library tecniques, materials,
and administrative practices. Demonstrated interest in professional development through
attending workshops, conferences and participation in continuing education. At least 2
years experience in a library setting preferred with some experience in planning,
organizing, staffing, coordinating, budgeting, and evaluating the library’s operation.

Special Requirement: Possession of a New York State Public Librarian’s professional
certificate at time of appointment.

Compensation: Salary range of $52,000 – $69,000 per year depending on qualifications
and experience for a 35 hour work week. In addition, 10 days of paid vacation per year for
the first 10 years years of service going up to 15 days in the 11th – 15th years and 20 days
per year after the 15th year. 12 paid holidays and 10 personal days per year. Contribution
towards health insurance. Contribution towards a Retirement Plan.

Setting: The Stone Ridge Library is housed in two historically significant buildings located
in the heart of the village of Stone Ridge in the Town of Marbletown in Ulster County, New
York — approximately 2 hours north of New York City in the scenic and historic Hudson
Valley. The Library serves a population of approximately 6000 in Marbletown and parts of
the neighboring town of Rochester. The library has an operating budget of approximately
$366,000 provided by local taxes, contributions, and other fundraising. The library is a
member of the Mid Hudson Library System.
