Hospital Library Services Program

Southeastern New York Library Resources Council's Hospital Library Services Program (HLSP) has served regional hospitals since the program's creation by the NYS Legislature in 1982. The HLSP provides medical information services, support, and information technology to the libraries of participating hospitals in Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

Program services include, but are not limited to:
  • Access to medical electronic resources including books, journals, and specialized databases through a package of licensed, partially subsidized resources shared by HLSP members.
  • Provision of hospital library web gateways to electronic information resources as well as promotional and educational support. Creation of marketing materials in association with the HLSP marketing sub-committee.
  • Online catalogs for hospital library book collections as well as a regional union catalog for books and journal SEAL Southeastern Access to Libraries
  • Continuing Education programs and special classes for medical library staff including sponsored trainings offered through the Middle Atlantic Regional Medical Library
  • Medical resource sharing through referrals and subsidy for Interlibrary Lending and Electronic Document Delivery Services through SENYLRC's administration of the New York Medical Information Services Program (MISP)
  • Networking, grant funding awareness, regional communication and support through listservs and SENYLRC staff support.
  • Onsite library assistance, consultation and hospital staff member training

The HLSP Advisory Committee provides guidance on the development, organization and implementation of services offered. The Committee meets quarterly and assists in the development of the Special Client Groups component of SENYLRC's Five-Year Plan (*.pdf) and advises on the activities and funding of each year's annual plan.

Program activities are coordinated by Hospital Library Program Manager, Patricia Carroll-Mathes <Contact Patricia> and administrative support is provided by Program Assistant, Kathy Horodyski <Contact Kathy> and other SENYLRC staff.
