Nanuet
Public Library News:
Nanuet Public Library celebrated 110 years of service with an open house on
Jun 26th. Their provisional charter was granted in 1894, and their permanent
charter was granted on June 27, 1904. They are hoping to build a new facility
and have contracted with the architectural firm of Peter Gisolfi Associates
of Hastings on Hudson in Westchester.
Grace
Riario has joined the staff at Nanuet as Young Adult Librarian. She
recently completed her MLS at Queens College.
Middletown
Thrall Library News:
Monica Irlbacher has been promoted by Middletown Thrall Library
to become Head of Youth Services. She is presently the Young Adult Librarian
and replaces Maria Trinca, who resigned to take a position
with the Broome County Public Library. Middletown Thrall Library was selected
by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association
as one of 40 libraries that will host a touring exhibition on the life of Abraham
Lincoln. The library will be hosting it from June 22-August 5, 2005. Also, the
library received a We the People Bookshelf award from the National Endowment
for the Humanities. The program provided fifteen books for young readers on
this year's theme of courage.
Andrew C. Jordan has joined the staff of the Goshen Public Library and Historical Society as Head of Support Services, overseeing circulation, technical processes and the library’s LAN. Andy received his BA from NYU and his MLIS from the University of South Carolina. Prior to coming to Goshen, he served as a reference librarian at the Chester Public Library, Chester, NY and as a youth services librarian at the Albert Wisner Library, Warwick, NY and Queens Borough Public Library. In his private life, Andy is a talented singer/songwriter.
While Orange-Ulster School Library System staff members Melissa Rowse and Darren Lanspery attended ALA in Orlando, they participated in the Fun Run/Walk. Melissa came in first in the Open Women's Division of the 5K Run, repeating last year's performance. Darren, who participated for the first time, came in fourth in the 2 mile Walk.
Jean Allee is the recipient of a 2004 SLMSSENY Beatrice Griggs Memorial Incentive grant for her Black History Month Read-In at the Middletown High School.
Raymond Teichman, Supervisory Archivist, retired from the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library on July 2, 2004, after thirty-five years of service. He was honored for his commitment to the Library and to the research community. Staff at FDR Library indicated that his knowledge and expertise will be sorely missed.
Stella Denton retired as the librarian at Pine Bush High School.
Gail Brach retired from Walden Elementary School in the Valley Central Schools.

On May 5th 2004, Cornell University celebrated the addition of a new library to its system, the Adelson Library. Located within the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Adelson Library is on the second floor of the Imogene Powers Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity at the Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary in Ithaca New York. Patricia
Mallon retired on June 2, 2004 after 36 years of service with the New
York State Library’s Division of Library Development. Recently
she was the regional liaison to the Mid-Hudson and Ramapo Catskill Library Systems,
and for a number of years was the DLD’s liaison to SENYLRC.
