NOVEL Invitational Grant
SENYLRC submitted a grant to the Division of Library Development in June as part of the State Library’s NOVEL Invitational Grant Application. The focus SENYLRC’s application is to train the staff at hospitals, medical centers and health-related special libraries within the Southeastern region on the use of NOVEL and other licensed electronic resources.
The training methods to be used for this project are a combination of web and CD-ROM tutorial reference guides, “live” tutorials or “webinars” using Internet and phone based media, and site visits to hospitals. SENYLRC’s Medical Services Manager, Patricia Carroll-Mathes, will author the content of the tutorials and develop the approach for “live” webinars (tutorial presentations to remote sites via the web). The actual tutorial formats will be created by a web design and graphics company. Patricia will work with the hospitals to identify target groups in each hospital. She will present the webinars as well as promote the Internet based tutorials and make site visits to medical libraries with the purpose of promoting the tutorial reference guides and the electronic resources.
These training
tools and methods will empower library staff in the medical community to promote
and train the users of their medical and health libraries in more efficient
use of the NOVEL databases and SENYLRC-subsidized health related electronic
resources. The program will be evaluated by conducting online surveys from February
through April, 2005.
