The NY 3Rs Association, Inc. is prepared to take on the management and administration of a statewide library delivery system. A NY 3RS Association task force was charged with evaluating the existing LAND delivery service and making recommendations for a new service that replicates the services LAND provided. This new service will ideally connect to existing regional delivery services and improve resource sharing throughout the state of New York. The new services would be in place by July 2012; the regional interconnectivity would be phased in by June 2013. The IDS Project and ConnectNY have partnered with the NY 3Rs Association to engage Gregory Pronevitz, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Library System, as a consultant for this project. Responsibilities of the consultant will include:
- developing a survey instrument to survey stakeholders
- developing a procurement document for vendors
- consulting with vendors and reviewing proposals
- working with the task force to identify the best vendor and draft/review a contract
For future updates on this work, please visit the NY 3Rs Association website: http://ny3rs.org.

Attention academic librarians: Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 7, 2009. On that day, SENYLRC will be sponsoring an all day workshop titled “Information Commons 2.0-Lessons Learned and Moving Forward.” Currently in the planning stages, we have secured Dr. D. Russell Bailey, Director of the Phillips Memorial Library at Providence College as our keynote speaker. Dr. Bailey is one of the foremost experts in the Information Commons (Learning Commons) environment and has authored several books and articles on the subject. We also are in the process of identifying potential workshop presenters from academic libraries which have implemented an information Commons and who can share with the audience the results of several years of experience with this concept.
The conference will be held at the Wallace Center on the grounds of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Home and Museum. Conference planners include Chui-chun Lee and Susan Kraat from SUNY New Paltz, Kari Mack from Ulster County Community College, and SENYLRC staff John Shaloiko and Judy Fischetti.
Any comments or suggestions as we continue with this planning effort are welcome on this blog posting
