Utilizing social networks to create a library presence can help bring your library services to the public. This two-hour online class teaches you how utilizing social software can help you promote library activities and services to connect with your users. The workshop will highlight a variety of social software outlets, such as Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and the latest social networking site. We will discuss the features of social software for library promotion.

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
Describe how joining social networks can help you market your library services
List the pros and cons of various social networking tools
Compare and evaluate the different ways that social software is used in a number of libraries

This workshop is intended for: Library staff, library administrators, and marketing staff. This workshop is for new and existing users of social software.

Speaker: Russell Palmer is the Supervisor of Professional Development at LYRASIS. He writes, teaches and speaks on a wide range of topics, including resource sharing, information services, collection development and information literacy. Russell previously worked as Instruction and Outreach Coordinator at Mercer University. He earned his MLIS at Florida State University, and his AB in English at the University of Georgia.

This two-hour online class will guide your way through some of the Google applications out there that can enhance your web experience and help you serve patrons more effectively. We’ll explore some of the innovative tools and products Google offers–many of them for free! We’ll explore live Google applications as well as take a peek at some that are in the Google lab.
