Southeastern News Online
Upcoming Workshops via Teleconference
Southeastern is hosting teleconferences sponsored by the College of DuPage. The teleconference format is an effective way to provide quality programming at an affordable price. During the program, participants may submit questions via phone, fax or email.
The programs will be held at the following locations:
Reference Tools for the Information Age: Consumer Medical Resources
What are the best consumer medical information reference tools available, both in print and online? This third teleconference in the Soaring to Excellence Series covers changes in healthcare and how it has affected clients and their needs, conducting reference interviews to help clients determine what they need, and examples of helpful consumer health information resources.
Speakers: Debra Kakuk, Reference Librarian at College of DuPage Library; Michelle Kraft, Head Medical Librarian at South Pointe Hospital; and Kelly Watson, Adult Services Librarian at Bensenville Community (Illinois) Public Library.
Library Challenges & Opportunities Series: Library Transformation:
Library as Place
Discover what public and academic libraries are doing to transform their images from building with books into centers for their communities and campuses — to be the place where people want to be.
Panelists: William Miller, Director of Libraries at Florida Atlantic University;
Douglas Zyskowski, Director of the Southfield (Michigan) Public Library, and
Ed Rivenburgh, Director of Libraries at SUNY Geneseo.
What are the current hot topics? What are the new technologies? In the style of a television news magazine; qualified speakers who are at the forefront of new issues share their knowledge of “hot topics” with those who have been unable to attend ALA conferences.
