SENYLRC Moves into its New "Digs"

The weekend of Friday November 12 to Sunday November 14 was very busy for SENYLRC
staff. During that weekend, with the help of professional movers, we relocated
the SENYLRC office and all our furniture, files, etc., two miles down Route
299 to our new building. 21 South Elting Corners Road, Highland is our new address.
Some of the library staff in the region have already stopped by for a visit
– either for a meeting or other business with the Council. Those who have
visited have remarked what a pleasant change for SENYLRC.
My response is “it is like moving from the nighttime to the daylight!”
Our new building is almost twice as large (7,000 square feet vs 4,000). The
first floor is where our offices are located plus the computer server room.
The lower level holds much possibility. Presently, one half is completely finished
into four rooms. The other side is unfinished. It is this side that we will
re-configure into a board/committee room plus a larger training conference room
to seat up to 40 people and two bathrooms. Once that is completed, we are contemplating
leasing out 1,000 square feet of the lower space.
Back to our November move… prior to moving, SENYLRC was able to secure
the services of the Beacon Correctional Facility and a team of five inmates.
They painted the entire upstairs with colors selected by the staff. They did
an excellent job. We also had new carpeting installed as well as the reconfiguration
of a large work room into a separate computer server room and workroom. We have
a fully functional kitchen with a stove, refrigerator and even a dishwasher.
A staff lounge that is almost three times the size of our old lounge. Two bathrooms
are upstairs, including one with a shower.
Currently our driveway has enough spaces for 20 vehicles; we hope to expand
it to 30 or more.
A pleasant surprise to SENYLRC and the Board of Trustees was the notification
by Senator Larkin in December that he was providing SENYLRC with a $20,000 legislative
grant. This money will be utilized as partial payment for the renovation of
the lower level. A big thank you to Senator Larkin!
Several people have inquired about an open house. Well, the Board recently
decided to combine our June 3rd Annual Meeting with an open house. Tentative
plans are to have the business meeting at SUNY New Paltz and, rather than a
keynote speaker, attendees will drive over to our new offices for the open house.
Senator Larkin will be invited to “cut the ribbon.”
Take a look at some of the pictures… of the move and what some of the
new offices look like. And don’t wait for the open house… come by
for a visit any time….
